The San Juan Ranch is a high-elevation retreat set at 8,500 feet, where a rustic log cabin overlooks the sweeping expanse of the San Juan Mountains. The design emphasizes a seamless integration between architecture and landscape, resolving complex stormwater challenges through a naturalistic dry riverbed that blends performance with aesthetic intent. Expansive stone patios extend the living space outward, anchored by a boulder fire pit that frames views into the surrounding forest. Native mountain plantings were selected for texture, color, and resilience, ensuring year-round visual interest and ecological function in a setting that receives up to nine feet of snow annually. A redwood deck and custom planters complete the composition, creating a cohesive outdoor environment where material warmth, spatial flow, and mountain context converge to connect the indoors with the beauty of the high country.
